Event Description

George Town was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 7th July 2008. The month-long George Town Festival was inaugurated in 2010, as a concerted effort to promote Arts and Heritage in Penang by the Penang State Government, Municipal Council of Penang Island, George Town World Heritage Incorporated and Penang Global Tourism.

Planned to be an annual event, George Town Festival is a feast of theater, music, dance, film, arts, food, fashion, photography, inspirational talks and visual spectacles on the streets. By bringing together different artistic communities based here and abroad – schools, amateur groups, cultural groups and professional performers – George Town Festival becomes the stage for local and international artistic exchange. It is guaranteed to give audiences a broad taste of traditional and contemporary artistic activity in George Town.

George Town Festival also offers creative practitioners, educators and business operators opportunities to create new works and form relationships with an array of different community groups. The Festival is growing each year, and it is a valuable platform to reach local and international audiences and stimulate Penang’s economy.
