Event Description

Garden International School Open Day

Garden International School (GIS) was founded in 1951 and is one of the first British international schools in Malaysia. From its original location in the Lake Gardens, GIS now is based in the affluent township of Mont Kiara and Desa Sri Hartamas in Kuala Lumpur. GIS is one of the largest international schools in Malaysia, educating over 2,000 students from 65 nationalities.

GIS provides high quality, holistic British-based curriculum with a unique innovative teaching and learning culture for students aged 3 to 18 years. Students benefit from both ‘taught curriculum’ that is delivered within the classroom and the ‘wider curriculum’ that takes place outside of the classroom such as over 200 co-curricular activities (CCA), camps, Discovery Week, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, recreational sports, Sports Academy, and Community Service. The curriculum is designed to bring out the best potential in every learner. They graduate equipped with various skills and knowledge to succeed in life and make a positive impact in the community.

At the heart of the school’s teaching is the GIS Learner Skills. Students are nurtured to be well-rounded individuals with a set of skills, competencies and qualities that will allow them to succeed in the world as young adults and beyond.

GIS students consistently achieve some of the best academic results in the world and continue to place the school as one of the top schools offering IGCSE and A-Levels. Based on statistics in 2017, 69 per cent of our students acquired A*/A grades in IGCSE while 62 per cent acquired A*/A grades in A-Levels. Over sixty percent of our students attend top 100 universities and our students often gain admissions to more than one of the Ivy League universities.

At GIS, we learn together as a community. We give all the tools and opportunities to all our community members to benefit from the GIS Learning Culture through innovative learning culture for our students, nurturing a strong home-school partnership with our community learning culture and attract and develop the best teachers through our professional learning culture.

The Early Years Centre (EYC) is a small school in its own right; providing a happy, secure, enriched environment in which children feel valued and have the self-confidence to become lifelong learners.

Our learning environments both inside and outside, are well resourced offering a range of multi-sensory learning opportunities. Our team of dedicated staff actively promote positive relationships and support children in developing effective communication skills.

An added dimension to learning at EYC is our Jungle School programme. This is a hands-on programme based on the ‘Forest Schools’ approach in Europe, that enables children to take managed risks and become actively involved in their immediate natural environment.

The Jungle School programme is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a natural environment. The “Jungle School” concept is really at the centre of the outside of the classroom learning.

Throughout their time at EYC, our young learners have opportunities to follow their interests and take ownership over their learning. This is encouraged through providing first-hand experiences to create a sense of awe and wonder about the world around them.

GIS will be holding an Open Day on the 8th of March 2018. Registered visitors will have the opportunity to see the school live in action, speak with teachers and join the small-group school tour of both the Early Years Centre and the main campus which will be led by teachers and students respectively. Visitors who apply on the same day will be entitled to 100% application fee waiver. Terms and conditions apply.
