Social Discoverers permeates every human relationship because it is our meaning-maker when we interact with one another. Some individuals do notacquire the rules of Social Thinking so readily and thus may have difficulty
making sense of the world around them.
Based on the We Thinkers (Vol. 1) curriculum written by Ryan Hendrix, Kari Zweber Palmer, Nancy Tarshis and Michelle Garcia Winner, we will be addressing some fundamental Social Thinking components in a fun, exciting and relational way. It will be conducted by a team of multidisciplinary therapists. This is an INCLUSIVE camp and we welcome typically developing
children and children with social learning weaknesses to simulate a typical learning environment. As this is a language-based approach, it is most suitable for children with normal or near-normal language development. On the final day of camp, parents are invited to attend the last section to learn what their children have experienced during the past couple of days.

The Effectiveness of Cognitive Training in Children with Developmental Conditions by Dr Marieke de Vries

Course Outline :
> What are Executive Functions and why are they important?
> Executive Function difficulties in Autism Spectrum and other neurodevelopmental
Conditions.
> The effectiveness of Cognitive Training
Executive Functions are cognitive functions. i.e., Working Memory, Cognitive Flexibility, and Inhibition, that we need to interact with our environment. Executive Functions are relevant for almost everything we do, such as studying, working, but also driving, working out and for social interaction.
Executive Functioning problems are common in a wide variety of conditions. Children (and adults) with neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) tend to have Executive Functioning difficulties, though the quality and severity might differ between and within conditions.
Cognitive training has been studied over the past decades for a number of conditions. Although initial results seemed promising, more stringent studies show smaller effects, particularly with respect to generalisation. The effectiveness and the challenges of cognitive training will be discussed.
