Event Description

Children (and adults) can look forward to wonderful storytelling in a specially built storytelling tent; book-related activities and crafts; and an array of Malaysian-focused books to choose from. We are also happy to announce two new events this year – The Storytelling Competition and The Writing Competition for children.

 

In the past, children listened to our storytellers. This year, we will listen to and read their stories.

(Knock ’em out, kids!. There will be great prizes to be won.)

 

To summarise, activities will include (but not limited to):

 

1. Malaysian children’s books in Bahasa and English will be on sale with special promotions;

2. Storytelling sessions for children (timetable for activities to be announced soon);

3. Art and craft activities for children (timetable for activities to be announced soon);

4. Children’s storytelling competition (ages 5 to 8);

5. Children’s writing competition (ages 9 to 12).

 

 

Storytelling competition for children

 

Eligibility: Children age 5 to 8 years.
Language: English.
Duration of storytelling: 4 minutes
The story: Participants are free to choose any story (fiction or non fiction), but only one story each.

 

Marks will be awarded for:

 

1. Performance and delivery – including the use of voice modulation, facial expressions and gestures;

2. Interest and appeal of story; and

3. Suitability and creativity of costume (in relation to the story told).

 

 

The judges decision will be final.

 

Prizes: The Storytelling Competition will be held on Saturday, 4 June 2016 at 11.00am and 3.00pm at Bangsar Village II concourse. The judges will award one first, one second and one third prize, and three consolation prizes for each session.

 

Registration deadline: May 23, 2016.

 

We have only limited places so please register your interest early. Entry forms are available from Silverfish Books, 2nd Floor, Bangsar Village II, Bangsar Baru, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.

 

 

Story Writing Competition


Eligibility: Children age 9-12 years,
Participants may write any story they like but it must be original, and a work of fiction.
Language: English.
Length: From 350-500 words.

Writers may submit more than one entry.

 

Entries must be submitted by email to info@silverfishbooks.com

 

Prizes – The judges will award one first, one second and one third prize, and three consolation prizes. Results will be announced on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Bangsar Village II concourse.

 

Winners of the first three prizes will be required to read their stories read on stage.
